Pearl Snap Shirts
My dad wears pearl snap shirts, Ely brand.
As a teenager, I was convinced this was the ultimate in farmer geek wear. The look is accented with $10-a-pair Rustler jeans and a seed cap. Yellow chore gloves in back pocket optional.
Who’d have thought my dad’s going to town duds would one day be paid tribute in a country song?
This week, I’m getting ready for a big shindig. The Agri-Business Expo Center where I work is hosting cowboy poet Baxter Black in a benefit performance. It feels kind of like having 400 people over for dinner.
And for a female, this requires a new outfit. Where else would I go but the iconic St. Joe Boot? Opening the door, the intoxicating scent of leather took me right back to the summer of 1992. My mom and sister went with me to the store where I bought a pair of slip on burgandy Roper boots so I could start college in style.
This time, I found the perfect cowgirl top.
Complete with pearl snaps.
Get your boots on – we’re going out in style!

Pearl snap shirt, definitely. Cute story!
I’m sitting here this very minute, drinking coffee with my hubby who is wearing a dark blue denim pearl snap shirt. I’ll take that over a string of pearls any day. I’m even tempted to give the shirt a yank and see how many will ‘un-snap’. That used to be a real game in high school!! Woo! Hoo!
Glad you girls enjoyed it. It’s fun the things that make memories.
Pearl snap shirts—-You bet! My hubby has worn many of those in his day. I have even sewed many of them for him. I have a little pearl snap applicator and a package of the snaps in my sewing drawer as I speak. Was going to throw them out once since I don’t do that anymore but just couldn’t let go of that little piece of history. Can you call me a hoarder!
Not at all Jeanie! My grandma made me a lot of clothes when I was little. She usually used snaps because she thought it was easier for her arthritic fingers than sewing on buttons. There’s always a place for snaps!
I could use one on my mouth, most days!! A pearl one would be nice!!
